Branch 1
Knights of the Southern Cross - Queensland

Over 100 years in Brisbane

Branch 1 of the Knights of the Southern Cross in Queensland is the original founding Branch in Queensland and as such has an unbroken, continuous history of serving our communities throughout Brisbane for over 102 years
Founded in 1921 with a strong Catholic ethos and will to serve the community as a whole under the guise of our Catholic Archbishops and Bishops, Knights in Branch 1 have sought to be leaders within the spiritual, faith, business, Government and bureaucratic communities in Brisbane and Queensland for over a century now.
With such a history of community involvement, Branch 1 has been an integral part of several Knights of the Southern Cross projects over the years, some of which are:

Protecting, guiding and mentoring Catholics and their families within society, particularly in areas of employment and family support.
Active promotion for the establishment of Government funding for Catholic schools throughout Australia.

Provided funding for the first Rosie’s Street Van

Establishment and active management of Southern Cross Care - possibly a crowning achievement thus far - providing quality care for elderly with Christian values front and centre in all that Southern Cross Care undertakes. Now with over 13 substantial Aged Care and 5 Retirement facilities throughout South East Queensland, SCC is truly a sector leader, due mainly in part to its personnel and Catholic ethos.
Additionally Branch 1 has been involved in the achievement of the:

- Establishment of Parents and Friends Associations in Catholic Schools throughout Australia
- Active support of Priests within Parishes
- Support of Catholic Seminaries throughout Australia
- Support of Military Chaplains and Deacons
- Organisation of National Prayer Crusades
- Mentoring and Leadership programs
- Establishment of Parents and Friends Associations in Catholic Schools throughoutAustralia
- Lobbying for and successful implementation of pensions for Clergy
The Objects of the Order of the Knights of the Southern Cross

1. To promote the advancement of Australia.
2. To foster the Christian way of life throughout the Nation.
3. To promote the welfare of its members and their families.
4. To encourage spiritual, social and intellectual activities amongst its members.
5. To conduct and support educational, charitable, religious and social welfare work
With that background established, we, as Branch 1 of the Knights of the Southern Cross in Queensland, whose community engagement area includes all of Jubilee Parish, Dorrington, TheGap/St. John’s Wood and
the Cathedral Precinct in the city, would like to make ourselves aware to you and your communities, with a view to perhaps cooperating in order to move existing projects forward or to bring new initiatives to fruition.
